Seasonal Decorations
You want to simplify your life (especially if you are in your 3rd Act) – time to get rid of most of your seasonal decorations – maybe save a couple of things – I have a foot high ceramic Christmas tree and a string of lights to put out on my patio. I have decided not to decorate for any other holiday. After all these seasonal decorations take up so much of our precious storage space. I say it is high time to downsize these items.
Clothes you are too good for
Clothes that have stains or holes or not comfortable to wear — time to get rid of those and realize you are too good for them. You deserve better.
Socks without a mate or excess socks
I had lots of socks that were missing mates – I finally realized their mates were not going to magically appear someday from wherever they disappeared to, so I got rid of them! Also, I had way too many socks. I narrowed down my collection to two weeks’ worth of socks. And they are all matching so that I don’t have to mate them when I take them out of the dyer – I just throw them in a drawer. I have officially retired from mating socks.
Magazines
Some of us have subscriptions to magazines that we never get around to reading. They sit in piles making us feel guilty that we spent money on them. Make a plan to get read them, and then throw them into the recycling bin.
Coffee Mugs
How many do you really need? If you have a big collection it may be time to rethink why you are holding on to all of them? Consider how much extra cupboard space you would have if you narrowed your collection down to 2. I now have two and have not missed the others I gave away.
