My new hobby lately is making many of my own household/beauty products. I love to save money and declutter my home of harmful chemicals and plastic containers. I am a natural type of girl who tries to eat a clean diet. I don’t like putting harmful chemicals on my face or body either.
Recently I discovered a great recipe for DIY Face and Body Moisturizer. I got the recipe from a woman named Tracy, who has tons of great non-toxic, enviromental-friendly recipes on her website. I was using a similar product called Boom Silk. It had almost the same ingredients as Tracy’s recipe. I thought I would try to duplicate Boom Silk since it was $29 for a 2-ounce jar. That is pretty expensive in my opinion! This recipe was easy to make and I am so proud of myself for making my own moisturizer.
All-natural Beeswax Lotion – 30 minutes to make
(got the recipe from Tracy at oursimplehomestead.com)
- 1/2 cup beeswax, freshly grated or beeswax pellets (you can find them at Amazon)
- 1 cup organic olive oil
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1/2 teaspoon Vitamin E oil
- 30 drops of your favorite essential oil (There are so many choices, but a few of my favorites are …grapefruit, lavender, eucalyptus or peppermint.)
- 1-pint jar or 6 – 2oz cosmetic jars with lids (I bought mine at Amazon)
Instructions:
Using a double boiler or heat-safe bowl place pint jar in the pot of simmering water. Melt beeswax, olive oil, and coconut oil until melted and blended.
Remove from heat and cool for 15 minutes. Add Vitamin E and your favorite essential oil. Stir until blended and pour into 2 oz containers or leave in a pint jar.
Let cool until solid and cool to the touch. They are ready to use and share!

Can I leave out the essential oil? I have very sensitive skin. Thanks!
Sandy Marthaler
Yes, of course. I think the essential oil just makes it smell good. Someone told me citrus is probably not a good thing either since it may cause sunburn? I have very sensitive skin as well and that is why I am making my own. So far, my skin loves this new moisturizer!
Karen
I was wondering what you used for face wash?
Nicole
Is this the only thing you use on your face? Overnight? How many times a day do you apply it?
Thank you
Sandy Marthaler
I use Crunchi charcoal facial bar – I order it from crunchy.com – they sell natural stuff. I like this cleaning bar, even if it is a little expensive, it lasts a very long time. All I use on my face
Sandy Marthaler
Yes and it is usually the only thing I use on my face during the day – if I will be out in the sun I use a sunscreen spray before applying the moisturizer. Usually just once in the morning and once before bed. I use it on my arms, legs, feet and hands as well.

How long will this keep? Does it require any special storage? Refrigeration?

Hi 👋🏾 from Pasco County Florida
Sandy Marthaler
I think it requires storage in a cool and dark place like a cupboard.
I will research further.
