Why Prioritizing Can Help You Reach Your Decluttering Goals
Prioritizing means ranking things in order of importance.
There is no such thing as “I don’t have time”. You just need to learn to prioritize better.
Successful people make time for the things that are most important to them. If you want to live in a home that is a joy to be in, you need to prioritize the tasks and projects that will get you there.
Being too busy is a myth. It is time to stop glorifying busyness and instead focus on what goals you are headed toward. Make sure you are doing things every day, every week, and every month that is getting you closer to the goals you have set for the year.
Three Reasons to Prioritize Your To-Do List:
Reason 1: YOU WILL BE MORE PRODUCTIVE
By prioritizing things on your to-do list, you will be less overwhelmed with what you want to do and more able to focus on what is most important to you.
Seeing a long list of things to do is not only overwhelming it is also a way to be less productive. Sure you need to make a list, but if you don’t decide what is most important to you, you will just be busy being busy.
You need to do the heavy thinking required to prioritize so that you always get the things that are most important done and you are not regretting what you did not do at the end of the day.
Reason 2: YOU WILL PREVENT OVER-BUSYNESS
Prioritizing will help you prevent getting burned out and prevent over-busyness. By prioritizing you will become more aware of the things that are worth your time and energy. You will learn not to overcrowd your days and move the things that aren’t a priority to another day with ease.
Reason 3: YOU WILL BE ABLE TO OVERCOME CHALLENGES
By having your priorities firmly in mind, you will be better able to push past challenges and stay on task.
We all have challenges.
One of mine is getting too tired after dinner. But my priority is having a clean kitchen, so I had to learn to have simpler meals that require less cleanup and have dinner earlier in the day. I am also working on cleaning as I go to prevent being overwhelmed with the kitchen mess I create.
Think about these:
Your goals should define your priorities.
When we try to juggle everything, we can’t enjoy anything.
You will always have time for the things you put first.
It is not about having time, it is about making time.
Do first things first.
Say to yourself often during the day: “Is this the most important thing I need to do right now?”
