Isn’t it time?
Haven’t you put it off long enough?
It is Springtime – a time of new beginnings!
It is time for a closet cleanout and a fresh start.
Time to look at all your clothes in your closet and drawers
and do a good purging!
And while you are purging, make a list of items you need.
Experts say that the average woman wears only twenty percent of the clothes she owns.
The rest, the remaining eighty percent, you keep for various reasons.
This eighty percent continues to cause you grief nearly every day.
Every time you go into your closet to get dressed in the morning,
you are faced with bad feelings about yourself and the decisions you have made in the past.
This eighty percent, what I call THE UNWORNS, goes undealt with;
sometimes for years!
You know you have the time.
You are just avoiding the emotions tied to the task.
This eighty percent of unworn clothing can unusually be divided into three categories:
THE MISFITS
These are the clothing items that don’t fit your personality, your current lifestyle, your color scheme, your current body, or your comfort level. It is time to let them go. You are worthy of clothes that fit and look good on you. You need clothes in your closet that will give you confidence and joy when you wear them.
THE NEVER-WORNS
These are the clothing items that you never wear because you made a buying mistake. They often have the price tag hanging on them, producing guilt every time you look at them. You may have bought it because it was on sale, and you wanted a shopping bag with something in it to make you feel good. It may be time to readjust your mindset and find other ways besides clothes shopping and wearing new things to make you happy.
THE SENTIMENTALS
How did we ever get to the point of being attached to a piece of cloth just because we wore it on a special occasion or someone we knew and loved in our past wore it? The item is not that person. The item you wore in your past does not hold the memory of the occasion. Your heart and mind do, though. Take a picture if you need to, but it may be time to let these items go and free up space for your current clothing.
CONCLUSION
Instead of feeling bad about yourself whenever you enter your closet to pick out an outfit for the day, maybe it’s time to stop and purge the items you are not wearing.
If not now, when?
Once you only have items in your closet that you love and wear frequently, you will feel better.
Your decision-making will be simplified, and your mood will change to guilty to joyful.
Getting dressed will be the pleasant experience it was always meant to be.
It is time to release these “UNWORNS” and turn them into “WORNS.”
It is time to turn them over to people who can wear what you are not!
Word of caution: avoid going out on a buying spree to fill up your closet again after you purge.
Begin to realize that you don’t need as much clothing as you thought, and adjust your mindset accordingly.
And the next time you go shopping, ask yourself,
“Do I seriously need this, or am I just buying it because it is a good deal?”
LET IT GO! LET IT GO! LET IT GO!
