The Importance of Taking A Before and After Pictures of Home Projects
I find it very helpful to take before and after photos of home organization projects I am working on. If it is a long complicated project I take several in-the-process photos as well. I post these on social media. They give me accountability that I find surprisingly helpful.
Back about a year ago when I began my journey from Chaos to Serenity, I posted my first photo of my very messy desk and then quickly followed it by a second after photo of a very clean and tidy desk.
I got over 2,000 likes on that post from two different facebook groups. People wanted to know how I did it so quickly. They congratulated me on a job well done. It felt good to get their feedback.
Knowing that I had a virtual audience that was going to be seeing this desk transformation really helped motivate me to get the job done and get it done quickly.
I moved everything on top, under, and inside the desk. Then I sorted it and decided how much I wanted inside the one drawer and how much I wanted on top of the desk. It was that day that I came up with a system that led to writing my e-book entitled Operation Serenity.
I am still working on projects and still documenting my process with photos and posting them on social media. I encourage you to do the same. I am now in a new place. I downsized a lot but I kept the desk. I once again let things get out of control shortly after moving in four months ago. So I did what works for me. I posted a before photo, then cleaned up the mess; then I followed it with an after photo. Yes, it really does work!
It was good to compare the photos and see that I have even less clutter than I did at the old place. And I have a bigger window to look out of and I like that a lot!
You will be surprised by how helpful taking photos can be.
You will be able to look back at all your photos someday and see how far you have come on your journey
And now with videos being so very easy to make on our phones and then post, it can be fun to take a video of your project as well. I believe you will be glad you did. You will be able to look back and realize how much progress you are making on your path to achieving lasting serenity in your home.
To sum up the “whys” of taking photos:
- They give you the motivation you need to stick with a project until you finish it.
- They are fun to share with others and get their support and acknowledgement of a job well done.
- They give you needed accountability.
