My Three Serenity Rules- BLOG
These three rules help me maintain tidiness in my home. I worked so hard to get a serene environment I certainly don’t want CHAOS to return. These rules keep me grounded. This former Messy needs rules!
Rule 1: GO TO BED WITH SERENITY AT ALL COSTS
Do a Room Walk-About every dang night!
You want to get all the horizontal surfaces in each room cleared off.
Getting each room in a tidy state will require changes in your schedule.
You may have to start doing the clean-up earlier in the day before you are too exhausted to do it. But you need to do it.
You need the practice with one room before you can add more rooms.
This one habit will make a huge difference later on.
Your future self will thank you for it!
Rule 2: GET SERENITY BACK ASAP
In the room you are working on – let’s say the bedroom, you get serenity back as soon as possible.
You make your bed as soon as your feet hit the floor, you clear off the nightstand of the book and reading glasses you used the night before etc. When you take your shower, you hang your towel up. When you get dressed, you don’t leave clothes lying around, etc. You hang up that robe and put those slippers in their place etc.
You set the stage for sorting out your stuff that day- go back to the zone you were working on, block out a time, and get to work on it.
But don’t forget Rule 1 – put that stuff away and get serenity back before you go to bed.
Rule 3: PUT ALL ITEMS IN THEIR NEW HOMES
You need to return items to their new homes after you have used them.
What good is it to create new improved homes for your things and then not return the items to them? This is your only hope for keeping your sanity and being able to find things quickly!
This habit may take a while, but don’t give up. On the contrary, it is crucial to work at it until it becomes automatic.
These three SERENITY HABITS will ensure, that the rooms you have posted your “CHAOS FREE ZONE” signs on will stay that way. And when you get Serenity in your entire home you will have practiced it in each room.
I hope that you, too, will benefit from these three serenity rules and that you will soon have a home that is chaos-free and, most importantly, be able to keep it that way.
